Measuring Your Dog |
Please note we do not cover postage for you to return items to us. With this in mind we advise you measure your dog properly, using the following as a guide. If you require any help with selecting the correct product size please contact us with your dog's measurements and we will be happy to help. Click here to see a video we've produced to show you how to measure your dog. To measure your dog correctly always use a soft tape measure and always measure your dog when they are standing. Please do not assume your dog is for example a small/medium/large sized dog and will require a small/medium/large size garment. This is incorrect and the garment will be too small. All dogs vary in size even those of the same breed so please do measure your dog. If your dog has a thick/dense or long coat always take this into account when measuring. If your dog is clipped short at the time of purchasing the item always give a bit extra for coat re-growth. Where to take measurements from while your dog is standing:Back Length - Place tape measure on your dog's shoulder blades and measure to the base of the tail. Chest - Again place tape measure on the dog's shoulder blades and measure right around the chest at the deepest point. This is usually following the line from the shoulder blades downwards just behind the front legs. Neck - For clothing and harnesses measure around the dog's neck at the widest point where the neck meets the body. Girth (Reflective Vests Only) - Your dog's girth measurement is taken at the widest part of the chest wall usually just before the end of the rib cage and where your dog's body starts to tuck up into the waist line. Hold the tape measure approximately three ribs in from the end of the rib cage and measure all the way around. For more measuring details on individual products see below. Please always double check the measurements as we know how dogs do not like to stand still. ClothingFor the perfect fit, clothing for your dog is measured by the dog's body length, chest and neck. The length is from the shoulder blades to the base of the tail. For the Chest size again place the tape measure on the dog's shoulder blades and measure right around the chest at the deepest point. This is usually following the line from the shoulder blades downwards just behind the front legs. If your dog is deep chested or overweight it is recommended going up to a larger size. Most dog clothing items have chest measurements as well to help you select the correct size. For the neck measurement measure around the dog's neck at the widest point where the neck meets the body. If in doubt please contact us. Reflective VestsFor the perfect fit on these Hi-Viz Vests you need to measure around your dog's neck at the widest point where the neck meets the body. Then measure your dog's girth – this measurement is taken at the widest part of the chest wall usually just before the end of the rib cage and where your dog's body starts to tuck up into the waist line. Hold the tape measure approximately three ribs in from the end of the rib cage and measure all the way around. Don't forget we do have extension pieces that can be added to extend the girth and neck size by up to 6 inches. If in doubt please contact us. HarnessesAll dog harnesses are adjustable so select the size nearest to your dog's chest measurement. Please measure around the dog's chest at the deepest point for a correct fit. To measure the deepest point place tape measure on the dogs shoulder blades and measure right around the chest at the deepest point. This is usually following the line from the shoulder blades downwards just behind the front legs. For the neck measurement measure around the dog's neck at the widest point where the neck meets the body. CollarsMeasure around the dog's neck and don’t forget that for a comfortable fit you must allow two fingers to be able to fit between the collar and your dog's neck. Sizes may vary slightly so it is always best to select a collar size range that your dog's measurement fits within. For example if your dog's measurement is 15" select 14-16" rather than 12-15". For puppies or young dogs that are still growing, select a size that can be adjusted to allow room for growth. DogglesMeasure the entire head circumference across the eyes and around the back of the ears for the head strap and frame measurement. Measure from the base of one ear under the chin to the base of the other ear for the chin strap measurement. Dog BedsMeasure the dog's length including the head and then the dog's height. From these two measurements you should be able to select the best length and width of dog bed. If your dog likes to stretch out, add about six inches, this then will allow your dog enough room to stretch or curl up in comfort.
